Expired Shoppers Drug Mart Optimum Points--the tricks and tips

Like every good loyalty program there are tricks to help you achieve your goals faster. These tricks and tips may change over time, so please check back often.

Purchase a Shoppers Drug Mart gift card. It is one of the few gift cards you can earn points for purchasing.

Use your Shoppers gift card when paying for items at the til. You do not get the points if you purchase a gift card with a gift card, so pay for the gift card when entering the store, do your shopping and then use the gift card. You should get the points for purchasing it and then on the items you purchased with it.

Take advantage of bonus point promotions. X20 the points can really boost your total. Even the X5 when you buy 2 or other offers add up.

Earn Shoppers Optimum Plus status. This status is earned when you EARN 15000 regular points at Shoppers by the end of the year. Plus offers a "reward" for redeeming your points. 5000 when you redeem 40000 and 10000 when you redeem 75000. Plus members also get "exclusive" coupons and offers not available to the general public.

Redeem your points on a Bonus Redemption weekend and get an extra $25** when redeeming 40000 $25+$75=$100 and an extra $50** when you redeem 75000 $50+$150=$200. Remember if you are a plus member you will also get points back!

If you are in the market for a new credit card, try the Shoppers Drug Mart Master Card. You can earn 25 points for every $1 in purchases at Shoppers Drug Mart and 5 points for every $1 spent anywhere else.

    * the amount of points required to earn has gone up to 15 000 from 10 000, but there may be some discrepancy with this.

** Not all the provinces use the same rate of bonus money for the redemption, check with your local Shoppers Drug Mart for the amount awarded.

I don't know how I'd spend 1500 at shoppers drug mart in a year... that's hard to do. They don't sell much.

I just looked it up and it's not spend $1500 at shoppers by the end of the year, but earn 1500 regular points (Excludes prescription purchases, Shoppers Optimum Bonus Points and points earned through the Shoppers Optimum MasterCard credit card) in a year to get plus status.

I good trick for optimizing is to buy stuff that never goes on sale during a 20x pts event. Flyers during these events are usually not phenomenal. Today I bought k-cup coffees (my SDM sells them!!!) and a WII knunchuk (or how ever it is spelled). I would be buying these at full price at some point anyways, so might as well get 20x points!

Great idea! There are a few things that you might want/need that don't go on sale like greeting cards and most "designer" perfume.

I tried to read up on this and had no patience. I will need to wait til I actually am more patient and relaxing lol. For now I am price matching at Walmart in most cases...........although that doesn't help my points!

the simplest method to get "extra" regular points is to buy the shoppers drug mart gift cards (for shoppers drug mart) at shoppers, and use your optimum card.

If you buy a $25 card you get 250 optimum points.

Then the next time you shop at shoppers use the gift card to make your purchase and then use your gift card as payment. you will then get the regular points on that purchase as well.
For sake of ease, if that purchase came to $25 you would earn 250 points on that purchase (plus the 250 you got when you bought the card) for a total of 500 regular points for only $25 out of pocket.
